The Detroit Red Wings play their final home opener at Joe Louis Arena tonight. After this season, they move to Little Caesars Arena.
That got us reminiscing about our favorite moments that took place at 19 Steve Yzerman Drive since the arena opened in December 1979.
Obviously, we remember the Stanley Cup wins. We also remember the big-time goals. The brawls. The highest of highs. The lowest of lows. We remember pinning No. 19 and No. 5 in the rafters. We remember paying respects to the late Mr. Hockey earlier this year.
Though Red Wings history goes well beyond Joe Louis Arena, many of the greatest memories for today's generation of Michigan hockey fans came from the hockey cathedral we know as "The Joe.
