Svechnikov rings up Wings' shootout winner in debut

Detroit — Quite the debut for Evgeny Svechnikov.

The Red Wings’ prospect, playing in his first NHL regular season game, scored the lone goal in a seven-round shootout Monday clinching Detroit's 5-4 win over Ottawa.

Svechnikov played 13 minutes, 10 seconds and was credited with one shot and one hit.

But it was shootout, with the game on the line, where Svechnikov made his mark.

“I was just excited,” said Svechnikov, who found out he was headed to the NHL after dinner Sunday. “It was the same move I made a couple times (in Grand Rapids).
