Status of Red Wings' Henrik Zetterberg unknown after 'tough summer'

Four months after their season ended, the Detroit Red Wings are no closer to knowing if Henrik Zetterberg can play this season.

General manager Ken Holland, speaking on a conference call Friday after the club signed Dylan Larkin to a five-year, $30.5 million contract, described Zetterberg's status as unknown.

It doesn't sound promising. Holland said Zetterberg's back, which required major surgery in 2014, has prevented him from training as hard as he usually does in the offseason.

"I am anxious to know where Henrik Zetterberg is at," Holland said. "Certainly, he's a bit of an unknown in terms of health.
