Spotlight shines on coaches as puck drops on Wings season

Detroit — Tonight’s Red Wings regular season opener is as much about the coaches, though both of them deflected attention to that after their team's Friday morning skates.

New Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill and Toronto’s Mike Babcock — who coached the Red Wings the last 10 seasons including 2008 Stanley Cup championship team —will enjoy the moment the best they can, although they believe it’s about the teams and players involved than it is about them.

For Blashill, specifically, coaching in his first NHL regular season game, he’ll take a brief moment to reflect.
