DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings were expected to take a defenseman with the sixth pick in this year's draft, someone who might be NHL-ready. Instead, they had forwards Filip Zadina and Joe Veleno (No. 30) fall to them in the first round.
It might not increase Dennis Cholowski's chances of making the rare jump from juniors to the NHL, but it doesn't hurt.
"When I saw that, it was get on my horse and get going because I think I'm next in line," Cholowski said. "The goal is the Red Wings this year. I'm going to do everything I can to do it.
