It took another team heading to the draft lottery for the Detroit Red Wings to halt their losing skid at eight.
Andreas Athanasiou scored to settle a 3-2 shootout victory over the New York Rangers on Thursday at Little Caesars Arena, the Wings fittingly finding a way to win on a night they honored a man who embodies competitiveness. The evening was full of tributes to Ted Lindsay, the Wings great who passed away Monday, from a video highlighting Lindsay’s achievements to Nicklas Lidstrom delivering a taped message.
The game itself offered less to grab attention, a lot of back-and-forth play but few quality chances.
