In early August, The Players’ Tribune caught up with former longtime Detroit Red Wing, NHL Hall of Famer and current Maple Leafs president and alternate governor Brendan Shanahan in their ‘The Tribune Mailbag’ series.
Shanahan, who won three Stanley Cups in Detroit between 1996-2006, answered reader questions about his time in the NHL, mentorship and his work in management.
Among a handful of questions related to his days with the Wings, Shanny was asked for his take on the rivalry with the Colorado Avalanche from the mid-1990s through the early 2000s.
“We had a lot of respect for them, but we also felt a lot of animosity,” wrote Shanahan.
