Shanahan coming home to Michigan Sports Hall of Fame

Detroit — Brendan Shanahan was born in Canada, played for five NHL teams (including the Red Wings), worked in the commissioner’s office in New York, and now works in the front office for the Maple Leafs.

But Michigan always has felt like home.

It’s where he started a family — he came here with no kids, and left with three — and won three Stanley Cup championships.

“I usually get back there three, four times a year,” Shanahan said during a telephone conversation Wednesday. “I try to make it to the old neighborhood to see the house we lived in; usually, once a year I’ll bring the kids.
