The Detroit Red Wings returned from a good trip to California and put on a less impressive display at home.
Sloppy defense marred their second period Tuesday at Little Caesars Arena against an opponent treading in the same shallow water in the NHL standings as the Wings.
The hard-skating, competitive edge the Wings showed last week wasn’t on display as they hosted the lowly Ottawa Senators. The Wings fell behind early, righted themselves enough to grab a lead, then let it slip away.
Their 4-3 loss ended a five-game point streak and dropped their record to 7-13-3.
