Detroit – The Red Wings appear to be closing on their final assistant coaching position.
They’ve received permission to interview former Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards for the final vacancy on Jeff Blashill’s staff, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
Richards is currently an assistant coach on Team USA in the world championship in Russia.
Richards’ role on the Red Wings would be overseeing the power play and forwards.
Richards, 49, has extensive NHL experience, which the Red Wings are looking for in the assistant’s position. He coached the Blue Jackets to a 127-112-21 record over three seasons, before being fired when Columbus opened this past season 0-7-0.
