Darren McCarty and Claude Lemieux will play for their respective alumni teams when Avalanche and Red Wings play Feb. 26, according to reports.
Lemieux said he was suiting up for the Avalanche, according to a report in The Hockey News. McCarty confirmed he'd be playing for the Wings' alumni team during an autograph session Wednesday, WXYZ-TV's Brad Galli reported.
Lemieux, 50, is best remembered for cross-checking Wings' Kris Draper from behind during the 1996 playoffs, which resulted in the forward sustaining a broken jaw, nose and cheekbone. The vicious hit sparked a heated rivalry between the two teams, which culminated in a 1997 brawl pitting McCarty against Lemieux that was soon eclipsed by a fight involving goalies Mike Vernon and Patrick Roy.
