DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings wrapped up a successful preseason Saturday with a 5-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs at Little Caesars Arena.
Their 7-1 record in exhibitions will mean little when the real games begin Thursday vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets at LCA, but the Red Wings hope this intense and competitive training camp will benefit not only a handful of prospects competing for jobs but veterans as well.
Vili Saarijarvi and Martin Frk scored power-play goals, Dominic Turgeon scored shorthanded while Matt Puempel and Libor Sulak provided even-strength tallies.
Givani Smith recorded two assists.
