DETROIT - Tyler Bertuzzi said his ankle injury was as painful as it looked, but at least it not as bad as it appeared.
Bertuzzi will miss three-to-five weeks, Detroit Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said Monday.
The rookie forward suffered a left high ankle sprain when he crashed awkwardly in the boards following a check from Alexei Emelin late in the second period Saturday in the Red Wings' 2-1 overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens at Joe Louis Arena.
"I just went into the corner and kind of got nudged and caught a rivet and went into the boards a little awkward," Bertuzzi said.
