Christoffer Ehn, who was the surprise of training camp for the Detroit Red Wings, was sent to Grand Rapids Griffins on Thursday.
The move was made to clear a roster spot for Jacob de la Rose, who practiced with the Red Wings on Thursday ahead of Friday's game against Winnepeg.
Ehn, 22, appeared in all nine games for the Red Wings with one assist, a plus-two rating and four penalty minutes.
"We know he's a good player, we know he can play in the league," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "We know he's a good defensive player.
