The Detroit Red Wings continued their sell-off, trading Thomas Vanek to the Florida Panthers for a draft pick and depth.
Vanek yielded a third-round pick in this year’s draft and defenseman Dylan McIlrath, in return for the Wings retaining 50% of Vanek’s $2.6 million salary.

Vanek is the fourth Wings player traded leading up to today's NHL trade deadline.. On Tuesday, the Red Wings traded Brendan Smith to the New York Rangers for a third-rounder this year and a second-rounder in 2018. They also traded Steve Ott to the Montreal Canadiens for a sixth-round pick in 2018.
