DETROIT - Jimmy Howard called it a humbling experience. Henrik Zetterberg said he had goosebumps. Riley Sheahan was all smiles.
From the red carpet walk into the building alongside legends to the final horn in the last game of an iconic venue, the Detroit Red Wings closed out Joe Louis Arena in style.
The captain, in his 1,000th game, fittingly led the way, as Henrik Zetterberg scored a goal and assisted on another Sunday to lead the Red Wings past the New Jersey Devils 4-1.
It was a day-long celebration that included many greats from the past, including former captains Steve Yzerman and Nicklas Lidstrom and legendary coach Scotty Bowman.
