TRAVERSE CITY -- The Detroit Red Wings began the first day of training camp with a couple of signings.
Defensive prospect Ryan Sproul was able to join practice at Centre Ice Arena after agreeing to a two-year contract. This season he will make $600,000 if he is with the Red Wings or $100,000 if in the minors. Year 2 is worth $650,000.
Sproul cannot be sent down without being exposed on waivers. The Wings plan to get a good look at the 6-foot-3 right-handed shot during exhibition season.
Veteran forward Daniel Cleary also got a contract this morning.
