The Detroit Red Wings got one of their restricted free agents signed, while another is likely to file for arbitration.
Defenseman Xavier Ouellet was signed Monday for two years at an $1.25 million annual average value against the salary cap. General manager Ken Holland described it as “relatively easy negotiations.”
Ouellet, 24 this month, did not have much leverage, with 96 career NHL games to his credit. He was a second-round pick in 2011.
Negotiations with forward Tomas Tatar may not be as easy. Tatar is likely to file for arbitration unless a deal gets done by Wednesday.
