The Detroit Red Wings selected Filip Hronek, a skilled, right-shooting, puck-moving defenseman with their third pick, No. 53, at the NHL entry Saturday at First Niagara Center in Buffalo.
Hronek (6-0, 163) is a good skater with offensive instincts, a player who can run the power play.
He had no goals and four assists in 40 games for HR Kravole in the Czech League. Prior to that, he played in 13 games for HR Kravole Juniors, picking up four goals and 12 assists.
This is the pick the Red Wings received from the Arizona Coyotes Friday in the deal for Pavel Datsyuk's cap hit.
