DETROIT - One of the Detroit Red Wings' goals is to score more goals by spending more time in the offensive zone and less time defending.
They didn't come close to realizing that objective in their season-opening 3-2 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets at Little Caesars Arena.
The Blue Jackets outshot the Red Wings 39-20 and dominated territorially.
"Too much time in D-zone coverage, so I thought the ice got titled too much the wrong way," Red Wing coach Jeff Blashill said. "When you're in D-zone coverage it's hard to establish a forecheck because you're getting it in and changing.
