EDMONTON, Alberta -- Detroit Red Wings defenseman Ryan Sproul left Saturday's game against the Edmonton Oilers early in the second period due to a lower-body injury.
Sproul fell behind his net and struggled to get to his feet at 3:04 of the second period at Rogers Place. He was helped off the ice by teammates, not putting weight on his left leg.
Sproul, 24, a frequent healthy scratch during his rookie season, had one goal and six assists in 26 games before this night.
He had an opportunity to secure a regular spot in the lineup after Brendan Smith was traded to the New York Rangers on Tuesday.
