DETROIT - Former Saginaw Spirit goaltender Jake Paterson was the lone restricted free agent not tendered a qualifying offer by the Detroit Red Wings by Sunday's deadline, making him an unrestricted free agent.
The Red Wings, as expected qualified RFAs Tomas Tatar, Andreas Athanasiou, Xavier Ouellet, Martin Frk and Brian Lashoff, retaining their rights.
The Red Wings drafted Paterson, 23, in the third round in 2012 (80th overall). He appeared in only two AHL games with the Grand Rapids, spending virtually his entire pro career with the ECHL Toledo Walleye.
Paterson appeared in 81 regular season games and nine playoff contests with Toledo.
