Artemi Panarin whipped in a wrist shot at 2:11 of overtime to lift the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 3-2 victory over the Red Wings in the regular season opener at Little Caesars Arena.
Columbus outshot Detroit 39-20.
Dennis Cholowski scored a goal in his NHL debut. Tyler Bertuzzi, starting his second NHL season, also scored.
