The Detroit Red Wings won two of their last three games entering their matchup with the Buffalo Sabres tonight at Joe Louis Arena.
But they left the game with some of the same disappointments that have plagued them the past two months.
This time it cost them in the Atlantic Division standings.
A letdown goal in the third period pushed last-place Buffalo past Detroit, 4-3. The Sabres (13-13-8) are now tied with the Red Wings (15-16-4) for seventh place with 34 points.
Evander Kane scored two goals for Buffalo, including the game-winner from Brian Gionta and Dmitry Kulikov at 8:29 of the third period.
