DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings landed a bevy of draft picks prior to and on the day of the trade deadline last year by shipping out four players.
They're not likely to be as active before today's 3 p.m. deadline, but any picks they get provides another opportunity to draft a player who might help them some day.
"I want us to be a team that can compete for the Stanley Cup," general manager Ken Holland said earlier in the week. "We're competitive. We're not quite where we need to be. To be where we want to be, I got to acquire draft picks.
