NEW YORK – When Jimmy Howard was relegated to backup duty last season for the Detroit Red Wings, he admits he didn't handle it well.
This time, he is better prepared for the role.
Howard made his season debut Wednesday and showed just how prepared he is spell Petr Mrazek every few games. Howard's spectacular 32-save performance led the Red Wings to a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers.
"Let's be honest, right now Pete's the No. 1, and I think I know how to handle the situation a lot better," Howard said. "Last year, I didn't quite understand how to be the back-up.
