DETROIT a The Detroit Red Wings mourned the passing of Jim Johannson, the general manager of USA Hockey who helped assemble an Olympic team this year without NHL players.
USA Hockey said Johansson died in his sleep early Sunday morning at his home in Colorado Springs. He was 53.
The Red Wings issued the following statement:
"The Detroit Red Wings are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jim Johannson, USA Hockey's assistant executive director and the general manager of the 2018 U.S. Olympic men's ice hockey team, who passed away this morning at the age of 53.
