PLYMOUTH - The Detroit Red Wings regular season opener is more than five weeks away, but coach Jeff Blashill is doubtful Henrik Zetterberg will be ready to play.
And if Zetterberg isn't ready at the start of the season on Oct. 4, Blashill doesn't expect the captain to play this season. And if Zetterberg, who turns 38 on Oct. 9, doesn't play this season, he's likely played his final game.
Blashill said they'll know more when Zetterberg has his pre-training camp physical in mid-September. Camp opens on Sept. 14 in Traverse City.
"He'll come into camp and we'll see," Blashill said.
