Red Wings hold on to defeat Vancouver in a shootout 3-2

Detroit — The Red Wings earned a first Tuesday night — their first shootout win of the season.

They defeated the Vancouver Canucks 3-2, thanks to a 1-0 shootout edge in the shootout.

Dylan Larkin was the lone player to score in the shootout.

The Wings moved to 5-8-2 for the season, while Vancouver is 9-6-1.

Vancouver outshot the Wings 42-30, as Howard made 40 saves and completed the whitewash in the shootout.

Both teams had decent chances in overtime, but Howard and Jacob Markstrom were up to the task.

Howard denied Vancouver's Bo Horvat breaking in alone on the first shift of overtime, while Markstrom stopped Gustav Nyquist in close later.
