DETROIT - Missing the playoffs for the first time in 26 seasons did not create a wealth of opportunities for fresh faces with the Detroit Red Wings.
The team starts training camp Friday in Traverse City with largely the same group that finished 2016-17, when the Red Wings were 14th in the Eastern Conference with 79 points. And most of the roster spots appear to be taken.
Some questions will be sorted out during four days on ice in camp and the eight-game preseason, prior to the regular season opener Oct. 5 against Minnesota, the Little Caesars Arena debut.
