DETROIT -- Jimmy Howard will start for the fifth time in six games Friday when the Detroit Red Wings face the Washington Capitals at Verizon Center (7 p.m., Fox Sports Detroit).
The Red Wings (8-8-1) look to snap a two-game losing skid against one of the top teams in the NHL. The Capitals, who won the Presidents' Trophy last season, are 10-4-2 and coming off a 7-1 victory Wednesday against the defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins.
Darren Helm's injury (dislocated shoulder, out 6-8 weeks) prompted some line shuffling. Riley Sheahan will move into the third-line center spot and Steve Ott moves from wing to center on the fourth line.
