Red Wings find tough sledding in East

Detroit – For years now there’s been the belief around the NHL that the West is best.

That is, the Western Conference is deeper than the Eastern Conference, with more teams capable of winning the Stanley Cup.

These days, it’s pretty much the opposite.

The East appears stronger top to bottom, with Montreal owning the most points in the league (41) heading into Sunday’s action, and the top five teams in the Atlantic Division all on win streaks (including Philadelphia with eight consecutive wins, Columbus six and Pittsburgh five).

Life in the Eastern Conference isn’t easy, particularly for a team like the Red Wings, who haven’t been able to stitch together a long win streak.
