The Detroit Red Wings will move quickly to fill their backup goaltending vacancy when free agency opens Sunday at noon.
The club is expected to sign Jonathan Bernier to a three-year contract worth approximately $3 million per season.
Bernier, who turns 30 on Aug. 7, went 19-13-3 last season with Colorado, posting a 2.85 goals-against average and .913 save percentage while earning $2.75 million on a one-year deal. He previously played for Anaheim, Toronto and Los Angeles and has a career record of 128-108-30, with a 2.68 GAA and .914 save percentage.
Bernier will back-up Jimmy Howard.
