DETROIT - The slow-starting Detroit Red Wings reached into their bag of resilience again on Monday and threatened to fashion another spirited comeback.
This one fell short.
Anthony Mantha scored a pair of goals in the third period, but the Red Wings couldn't get the equalizer in the final minutes, falling 7-5 to the Columbus Blue Jackets at Little Caesars Arena.
Mantha scored his second of the game and ninth of the season with 2:12 remaining. But Seth Jones scored into an empty net with 1:31 to play to seal the outcome.
The Red Wings (10-11-3) are winless in three (0-2-1).
