There in the window was Evgeny Svechnikov, running at night. That’s the kind of shadowy intel a team likes to hear about a top prospect.
When Drew Miller woke up today with flu, the Detroit Red Wings turned it into an opportunity to get a look at their first-round pick from 2015, calling up Svechnikov to have him available for this evening's game at Joe Louis Arena against the Ottawa Senators.
Tomas Nosek, himself a recent call-up from the Grand Rapids Griffins, smiled when asked Svechnikov’s best asset.
“I think he has got a hell of a shot,” Nosek said.
