Red Wings call up Mitch Callahan after trading gritty Steve Ott

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- A day after trading Steve Ott, the Detroit Red Wings brought up some grit from their system.

Mitch Callahan was called up up today from Grand Rapids to have available as the Western Canada part of this road trip continues Friday at Calgary and Saturday at Edmonton. The Wings were off today, after winning 3-2 in overtime Tuesday against the Canucks.

Callahan, 25, has 14 goals and 36 points in 53 games with the Griffins this season. He is a sandpaper type of player.

He has played one game with the Wings, making his NHL debut on March 25, 2014, at Columbus.
