DETROIT - Coaches love every-day players, guys who compete and battle and bring a consistent game-to-game effort.
It was apparent before Thursday that the Detroit Red Wings don't have enough of those players. Coach Jeff Blashill couldn't stress that enough following a 5-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks at Little Caesars Arena.
"We had too many guys that weren't good enough," Blashill said. "Some guys have to learn what every night means."
That sentiment was supported by captain Henrik Zetterberg, after the Blackhawks scored three goals in a span of 5:28 to take a 3-0 lead 8:47 into the game, sending Jimmy Howard to the bench in favor or Petr Mrazek.
