GLENDALE, Ariz. - Gustav Nyquist scored the lone goal of the shootout Thursday to lift the Detroit Red Wings past the Arizona Coyotes 5-4 at Gila River Arena.
The Red Wings (27-31-11) rebounded from a bad loss the night before to the league-worst Colorado Avalanche. They snapped Arizona's three-game winning streak.
Detroit improved to 8-0 in shootouts. Arizona is 6-2 in shootouts.
It was a back-and-forth game.
Henrik Zetterberg stepped out of the penalty box and scored with 6:05 remaining in the third period to give the Red Wings a 4-3 lead.
Zetterberg, who was serving his second interference penalty of the night, found some open ice and fired a shot that beat Mike Smith on the short side.
