NEWARK, N.J. — With the NHL trade deadline 11 days away, the Detroit Red Wings gave up four goals in four minutes while their general manager watched from the press box.
The Wings grabbed the lead on the New Jersey Devils on Thursday at Prudential Center only to fall apart in the third period. Jonathan Bernier played better than the 4-1 final would indicate, but he couldn’t counter his teammates' defensive lapses. The loss dropped the Wings to 14-41-4.
Wings GM Steve Yzerman watched as Andreas Athanasiou netted a power-play goal, his eighth score of the season.
