DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings avoided their first seven-game winless streak since 2013 by beating the Florida Panthers 3-2 in a shootout on Saturday.
But the Red Wings have some ground to make up after going six games without winning (0-5-1).
Detroit has scored only five goals in the first period through 12 games (opponents have 10 goals), ranks 25th in the NHL in goals per game (2.5) and 24th on the power play (14 percent).
