The signing shores up the goaltending through next season, as backup Jonathan Bernier has two years remaining on his contract. It was an expected move as the Wings don’t have a prospect ready in the farm system. Howard has been vocal about his desire to stay with the only NHL team he has known, and hopes to help them back to the playoffs.
“We want to be playing in April,” Howard said after Wednesday’s practice at Enterprise Center. “It’s great that that was added on to it, but I’m just happy to be here.
