The Detroit Red Wings and training camp event organizers in Traverse City announced today that the trophy awarded to the champion of the NHL Prospect Tournament has been renamed the Matthew Wuest Memorial Cup.
Matthew Wuest, who you may know as the creator of the incredible site CapGeek, passed away from cancer in March. He was a true pioneer for fan interaction with their favorite teams, by creating a user-friendly interface to examine and learn about the NHL cap system.
This is a fantastic move by the Red Wings, and other teams involved. Matthew was a devoted fan to the sport, and did numerous things to benefit the fan's perspective and understanding.
