On This Day, The Red Wings Beat Penguins to win 11th Stanley Cup Championship

On this day just seven short years ago, the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 in game six of the 2008 Stanley Cup Final to win the 11th Stanley Cup in franchise history, and the 4th championship in an 11-year span. In front of just over 17,000 fans at Mellon Arena, Detroit's goals came from Brian Rafalski, Valtteri Filppula, and Conn Smythe Trophy winner Henrik Zetterberg which was enough to put the game away.

Another fun fact? This was the date that three Swedish Red Wings were added to the Triple Gold Club: Henrik Zetterberg, Niklas Kronwall, and Mikael Samuelsson after winning Olympic and World Championship gold in 2006.
