Tossing an octopus onto the ice has been a Detroit tradition since the early 1950s.
But it got one man banned for life from Little Caesars Arena.
After Nick Horvath of Windsor was ejected from the arena and told never to return after he became the first person to throw an octopus onto the ice at LCA Thursday during the Detroit Red Wings season opener.
"The crowd was going nuts," Horvath told CBC News. "As they were escorting me out people were booing them, 'Let him go!' People were high-fiving me, giving me spanks on the butt, slaps on the butt .
