The Detroit Red Wings placed five players on waivers today.
Forwards Martin Frk, Mitch Callahan and Eric Tangradi and defensemen Nick Jensen and Brian Lashoff can either be picked up by another NHL team by noon Sunday or will be eligible to be sent to the minors.
The Wings have to trim their roster to 23 by 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Jensen being waived is good news for Ryan Sproul, as it indicates that the Wings will keep the big right-shooting defenseman. Coach Jeff Blashill has said the plan is to carry eight defensemen, so those would be the six regulars, plus Xavier Ouellet and Sproul.
