With the 9th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, the Red Wings draft centerman Michael Rasmussen from Tri-City in the WHL.
The Wings went off the book here. Rasmussen was a guy who had his draft stock inflated due to his size. He’s a strong player, with a lot of character, but skipping on players like Gabriel Vilardi is questionable.
Posting 32 goals, and 33 assists in his second season in the wHL, Rasmussen is described as a less-explosive player with a monstrous frame.
