Detroit — It wasn’t an easy summer for the Howe family, certainly.
But as the children of Gordie and Colleen Howe returned to Joe Louis Arena with a ceremonial puck drop and the firm intention to carry on the Howes’ great legacy with the Red Wings and Detroit, the pervading sense was that the greatness will long linger.
“This is kind of the beginning of the process for the Howe children to continue the legacy not only of Gordon Howe, but Colleen Howe,” said their son, Mark, the former defenseman and a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, and the director of pro scouting for the Red Wings.
