DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings eased Dylan Larkin's transition to the NHL by playing him on the wing as a 19-year-old rookie in 2015-16.
Michael Rasmussen took note. He hopes to do the same this season.
Rasmussen, a 6-6, 221-pound center Detroit drafted ninth overall in 2017, was moved to the wing near the end of the regular season with WHL Tri-City. He played exclusively on the wing during a dominant playoff run.
The Red Wings expect Rasmussen to compete for a roster spot in training camp while playing on the wing, where he'll have fewer defensive responsibilities.
