Matt Puempel, who posted a career-high 57 points with the Grand Rapids Griffins last season, agreed Sunday to a two-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings.
The 25-year-old has been a free agent since July 1.
Puempel had 23 goals in 62 games last season, five with the Hartford Wolf Pack before coming over to the Detroit organization in a trade with the New York Rangers in exchange for Ryan Sproul on Oct. 21.
Puempel had 54 points (22-32-54), third best on the Griffins, and was selected to the 2018 AHL All-Star Classic.
