Dylan Larkin forced the Detroit Red Wings to keep him by being so incredibly good.
Head coach Jeff Blashill announced this morning that Larkin will be a part of the roster when the Wings host Toronto in Friday's season opener (7:30 p.m., FSD, Channel 2).
"We just felt, I specifically really felt, he makes us better," Blashill said. "And to an exponential amount that we felt it was important he started on the team. We just felt he has earned the spot."
The Wings reduced their roster to 23 this afternoon by assigning Mitch Callahan, Andy Miele and Brian Lashoff to Grand Rapids and putting defenseman Jakub Kindl on injured reserve.
